Adam Thoroughgood arrived in Virginia in 1621 as an indentured servant. Granted a land parcel in 1636 it is believed that the house dates to 1680, most likely built by his grandsons. Costumed historical interpreters conduct guided tours of the structure and the surrounding grounds.
Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum

Located in the last remaining Virginia Beach Boardwalk cottage, de Witt Cottage, which was built in 1895. The Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum contains wildfowl artifacts and art as well as representations of the early history of the Virginia Beach. Admission is free.
Cape Henry Lighthouses

Serving as silent guards to the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay, the The octagonal stone structure was completed in 1792 and is the oldest government-built lighthouse in America, while the “new” lighthouse was built in 1881 and is the tallest cast iron lighthouse in the country. Both are located at Fort Story, north of the resort area. The Cape Henry Lighthouse is located within Fort Story military base. To visit the lighthouse, you must pass through the security gates of Fort Story. Please have identification including a picture with you for all visitors aged 18 years or older.
